Come by and take a look!
I discovered Karen Appleton’s work a long time ago via A Gift Wrapped Life. Her paintings of beautifully wrapped presents fall straight into my love of art representing treasured things. Because all wrapped packages are potential treasures, right?
Here are some of my favorites:

And even better, I found a few paintings of actual treasures that might be found in such lovely wrappings:

I would love to own any one of these – when looking for a special gift, I don’t think you can ever go wrong with a pretty clutch purse (or a painting of one).
I saw this image a while ago and I keep coming back to it…

There is something about this dress that I find utterly charming. Unfortunately, I wasn’t quite as taken with the rest of Jules Reid Fall/Winter collection. It was lovely and vibrant and an interesting mix of modern and vintage style…but something about it felt a bit over the top to me.

BUT I think I know what it is. It’s the model. Her look is so soft and her hair is so loose and wavy. In my mind the styling should have been a little more stark and modern. A dark haired girl with a short blunt cut would have better set off the jewel bright colors and flowing lines of the clothes. I’m picturing a Gloria Vanderbilt type – possibly a nod to the sophisticated 40’s style.
But seriously, what do I know? What do you think?
I’m taking a bit of a break for the Thanksgiving holiday, so I’ll see you next week!
Love these illustrations I found on Full House:

They were done by Joe Eula for Halston circa 1980. I found even more in Google images if you’re ever looking for a little fashion eye candy…
Remember the post I did on the new Ada & Darcy shop last week? And this was one of the items that I loved?

Well apparently I wasn’t the only one… Some fans were even moved to paint it:

Driftwood Interiors has and Etsy shop with even more pretties. Here are some paintings and prints that caught my eye:

Visit the Driftwood Interiors blog for more loveliness. AND receive 20% off of all purchases on Etsy through December 21st. All followers will be entered for a giveaway as well – so don’t forget to sign up for that (read the post for full details).
I feel like no matter what I start doing online, I always end up browsing through pages and pages of shopping sites. Could it be the approaching holidays? Shopaholic tendencies? Either way, I have a new link to pass along.
I’ve been a longtime reader of the lovely blog Ada & Darcy and was so excited to peruse the new Ada & Darcy shop.
If anyone is thinking about buying me something fabulous, here is little wish list montage:

Don’t know if I could pull off the blue robe and boots look…but I think my fuzzy slippers might be a bit more practical anyway.
I just got a haircut recently. Here is a picture that George (of all people) took of me at the playground.
Eleanor wasn’t a huge fan because it wasn’t “fancy” (which is clear in the no make up, playground outfit look above), but I still love it.
There is somthing about completely changing your hair that makes you feel very pretty and feminine. Or maybe that’s just me…
Years ago, I gave my best friend (who was single and living in Georgetown at the time) a book called Swell: A Girl’s Guide to the Good Life. I loved that book…such great tips and advice, like how to exit a limo gracefully and how to “duke” (passing a tip with a closed hand).
I always think of this book when I read Mrs. Lilien. If you are not familiar with this jewel box of a blog, then run don’t walk.

And make sure to check out her new Holiday Shoppe. featuring swell items such as “shoe bling“:
If you didn’t already know this, I’m a little bit fanatical about Christmas tree decorating. I love this element of the holiday season and the glamour it adds to our house. No matter how much of a hell hole it might be pre-clean up, I can always just look at my tree and go to my happy place.
I don’t do a lot of decorating, but without exception, I must have a tree. I’ve even written about my tree each year since I started blogging (see 2008 and 2009 posts). My mediocre photography skills don’t capture the kick-ass-ness of my trees to full effect…but take my word for it. If I don’t excel at anything else – I can decorate the hell out of a Christmas tree.
While I’m not actively buying ornaments (we have a good amount of them now), I always look. Jayson Home and Garden has some lovely ones that would appeal to the aesthetic of almost any tree decorator…

Ornaments make great hostess gifts for holiday parties (I mean – if they do trees of course). I’ll take one of each pictured above, please.
P.S. Is it me, or did you also hear that owl pleading, “buy me, buy me – please…”?
I love these chunky necklaces from Irene Jung. Armed with creative talent and “the idea that you could repurpose and recycle other people’s forgotten items into beautiful pieces of art,” she started making these gorgeous necklaces with vintage brooches and earrings.
