How to Get More Readers for Your Style Blog

Here’s an idea. Advertise in an online magazine.

I was just “flipping through” the latest issue of Lonny Magazine and saw an ad for a blog I know.

My Dog-Eared Pages is a very interesting read and I’ve found some new-to-me favorites there. One example is Jane Mount’s book collection paintings – my latest obsession.

Anyway – it occurred to me that if I didn’t already have that blog in my reader, I would have been intrigued by the ad and definitely would have checked it out. And I would assume that most other Lonny readers would do the same. So if you’re looking to grow your readership, advertising in a popular online style magazine could be the ticket.

How expensive is it? No idea. I won’t be advertising Wishing True anytime soon. It will never be more than a little blog about things I like/love/find intriguing and sometimes really can’t stand. But for those of you who are looking toward bigger and better things… Let me know how it works out for you!

Hot Air Balloons from ish and chi

One thing I love about gay dads is that they can eclipse the most en fuego of Type A first time pregnant moms when it comes to nursery planning.

When I was pregnant with my first and doing the registry thing, I also had uncounted friends with registries. So I became extremely well versed on what should be on the list, what was totally ridiculous and what details should be in your profile to help a buyer make their off-the-registry choices (those damn renegades…STICK TO THE LIST!)

Anyway – every registry had a notes section where the parents could describe their nursery decor. I saw everything from “the nursery is blue and yellow” to “The nursery is painted yellow and the bedding is Beatrix Potter.” But the best by far came from a gay couple, “the theme of the nursery is ‘Hot Air Balloon.’” Simple yet – so much in there… Creative, un-Disneyfied and whimsical – that nursery didn’t just have decor, it had a “THEME.”

Anyway – I saw this adorable cut paper design from ish and chi and immediately thought of those Type A gay dads.

Too bad they’re done having their babies (and they had a different theme for each nursery anyway). These would have been perfect.

Project Runway Designer on Etsy

Lindsey of A GrateFull Day fame always finds the prettiest things. So of course she featured the beautiful work of one of the most recent top three, Carol Hannah.

I never expected her to win (always knew it would be that obnoxious yet talented Irina), but who could resist her beautifully feminine work? Not to mention her sweet disposition and obvious aversion to backbiting. She’s a doll.

And she has Etsy stores for two lines!

First her wedding line. Here are my favorites (bridesmaid options of course):

And her ready to wear:

The LBD would be amazing on someone with great legs. Sadly, that would not be me, but in my shopping fantasies, everything is one size fits all.

Daddy Likey’s "Closet Confidential" Giveaway on As Good As Cake!

I have been a longtime fan of Winona who writes the popular style blog, Daddy Likey. So I was thrilled to hear that she had written a book about fashion for the regular girl.

Winona is sooooo funny and always happy to have a laugh at her own expense, so a book about her own style evolution and the tips and “tricks of the trade” she learned along the way is guaranteed to be as entertaining as it is informative.

Today Winona is hosting an As Good As Cake giveaway is a copy of her fabulous book with a personalized dedication and/or haiku.

Yes – if you’re not familiar with Daddy Likey, Winona writes hilarious fashion haikus.

Don’t forget to visit her today for ANOTHER big Closet Confidential giveaway that she’s hosting! Winona gave me a little advance info on it: “The grand prize includes a signed copy of Closet Confidential, a $250 Butter by Nadia wrap dress, a gorgeous necklace, and more. Runners up can get books, cute indie designer t-shirts, watches, and other cool stuff.”
