Or maybe it was “absolute power…” Anyway – that’s one of the very few quotes I remember from school – and I still had to look up who said it.
Speaking of Absolutely Beautiful Things – don’t you just love Anna Spiro? I’m obsessed with ABT and find her images and writing to be a true source of daily inspiration.
I particularly love her Friday Flowers:

She also indulges us with pictures of her own interior design work:

And of course, I find great inspiration in the paintings that she commissions for Black & Spiro:

That last one may be for herself though…
Everything from her color choices and love of textiles to her eye for art and flowers makes me want to move to Australia and beg to be her personal assistant. (Don’t know what she’d think of the three toddlers I’ve have in tow, but maybe we could keep them busy sorting fabric samples…)
Really – I just love everything about this site. Every day is a gem, and I’m never disappointed. If Absolutely Beautiful Things isn’t currently in your reader, add it today!
What do you think?

I also had a couple of failed attempts. I don’t hate them – but they’re not what I was going for, so they won’t see the light of day.
Anyway – these were fun to do, and now I almost (ALMOST) feel satisfied. Nothing really compares to the real thing, but in these hard financial times, we have to make due…
How about you? What do you substitute for your real life cravings?
P.S. Any tips for photography “how to” websites? I mean for people with regular point and shoot cameras. My pretty little pictures look rather sad in the images above…

Seriously? Are we going there again? Because if it didn’t work for me when I was 16, it sure isn’t going to now…

Last week I found this image on Ish & Chi. I tend to prefer a fresh coat of paint on walls – but there is just something about this picture… Maybe it’s the birdies.
Since I’m combing the Internet for little pictures to inspire my own scribbling, I am immediately drawn to pretty little pictures created by “real” artists.
Chelsea of {frolic!} recently featured the watercolor illustrations of Bella Foster, and I was quite taken with them.
Particularly these interiors:
I just posted something about this on The Big Piece of Cake, and thought it was well suited to this site as well.
I haven’t done anything in the way of artwork since school, but last week, out of the blue, decided to buy myself a set of pastels and give it a try.
Here is my first try (technically second – but you’ll have to see my other post for full details).
I selected this lovely image from Absolutely Beautiful Things:

And then tried to capture it on paper:

Not too shabby for a first attempt… Of course in light of the caliber of my creations from 20 years ago, it probably won’t get much better than this. I’m not a real artist – but it sure is fun!
How about you? Do you play artist, poet or musician – just for fun?

I SOOOO want one of these beautiful dolls from Du Buh Du.
I was hoping to win the drawing she held last week – but alas, my name wasn’t picked.
If I could have chosen one it would be:
We hear about LBD (Little Black Dress) all the time, but I personally have a thing for the LWD: the Little White Desk.
Whether it’s distressed and beachy looking or frilled dressing tabled out – I just love them.
So of course, this little number featured on Apartment Therapy caught my eye:
