Everyone who is familiar with my websites knows how much I love Brooke Galardi of Bee Gee Bags. And I would buy one of each if I could.
So in light of my new hobby – I decided that I would do the next best thing. I’d try to capture them on paper.

I also had a couple of failed attempts. I don’t hate them – but they’re not what I was going for, so they won’t see the light of day.
Anyway – these were fun to do, and now I almost (ALMOST) feel satisfied. Nothing really compares to the real thing, but in these hard financial times, we have to make due…
How about you? What do you substitute for your real life cravings?
P.S. Any tips for photography “how to” websites? I mean for people with regular point and shoot cameras. My pretty little pictures look rather sad in the images above…

I love the Brooke's bag with the orange flower. I'd hang that somewhere around here for sure. Sorry to not have photography help, that's my husband's area of expertise. I do know it's all about the lighting.

Practice makes perfect. They are nice. All I can tell you from my end is try different settings on your camera or read the manual. I hate doing that so I don't. I just play.
I'm impressed. Most anything I draw has stick figure quality.

I think you should feel VERY PROUD – the drawings you made are beautiful! And – as if you did not know this – flowers are the HARDEST things to draw and get right – and you have done a wonderful job at your flowers, just perfect! Way to go! :)
Good job, Kate! Love the purses and your renderings. I know there is an art to photographing "products" I just don't know where to research it. Maybe "catalog photography methods"? I do know the really important element is the lighting. Those refective photographers umbrellas? Love you.

I second the fun postcard idea, or even framed in a quad or collage frame. I love the upside down flower, too.
I also love that you're doing this kind of thing you love. If I could fulfill my cravings, the house would be filled with all the books I love, might love, and will grow to love that'd I'd purchased, but since I can't afford to do that, I'll forever marvel at libraries letting us have books for a few weeks, and enjoy the perks of working at a bookstore, where I can check out new reads all the time. Then I'll dream about being able to write books that someone might want to have surrounding them in their homes.

Some people say scanning works best with artwork rather than pictures. But I hope you find something that helps. I hate photographing my jewerly for that same reason.

Those pictures are fantastic. They took me a long time to get through though since my wife was standing over my shoulder squealing, "wait, go back to that one!"

Oh, I wish I had never seen that website, because I totally want that pink poppy bag. And I'm not even organized enough to match my purse to my outfit unless I'm going out with my girlfriends who are that together. I secretly long to be one of those girls!
I agree with some of the other comments that you should get paid to do marketing for the site—I love fashion illustration as an artform. You know Andy Warhol got his start by drawing shoes?!
As for what I do to make do (which is the story of my life, no matter what the economy is like), I substitute a few hours at the shore at the end of the day with my husband whenever we feel like we need a vacation. Since it seems like a real vacation is never in the budget. We call in our sitter and make the hour-long drive, then walk the boards, eat greasy pizza and softserve, and take in the salt air while watching the sun go down. The sitter is the most expensive part of the outing, and it clears out my cobwebs enough to make it another couple weeks until I can do it again.
