One of Those "Housekeeping" Posts That’s Only Interesting to People with Blogs…and Mom of Course

And by “housekeeping” I’m talking about my blog – not my house. This is probably one of the most boring genres of blog posting out there…yet at some point we all do it.

Even if we only have five readers, we feel the need to update them on how we feel about blogging, changes we’re making, and of course those apologies for letting days go by without a single word, image or flash of brilliance. “Don’t feel abandoned loyal readers – let me explain.

And for those of you with huge readerships, this is probably warranted. But for the rest of us – it’s a bit like talking to ourselves in the mirror (or maybe chatting on the phone with Mom).

Either way – we all do it eventually. And today – I can’t resist the pull. The siren call of “blogging about blogging.” Because I have been a big blogging FAIL lately.

Here are the reasons why:

1. I started a new blog for my parents’ shop Style Key West, and while they are writing and providing content, I set everything up for them. And I also write all of their Monday posts – just so you know.

2. I have been trying to post more frequently on Wishing True. I love my little pretty things blog even if it does have a tiny readership. So I don’t want it to go the way of Underdogs Unite.

[See – I told you – BORING!]

3. My twins have recently decided that we are once again connected by umbilical cords. The separation that took place three years and almost four months ago has completely slipped their minds. Much like agoraphobics with their homes, they become increasingly uncomfortable as the space between us begins to widen. And if I leave their sight for more than a few minutes, the panic attacks begin. If I want to be on the computer, I generally have to work around the two squirming three year olds on my lap.

[Oh god – now she’s blaming her kids. Shameless!]

4. I have a son named Oliver who has some special needs. He’s a handful. The end. Epilogue: I’m now taking him to extra therapy which requires driving everyone to appointments, WHICH entails getting three children suited up for the cold, getting them out to the car, getting them into the car, driving to the appointment, getting them out of the car, getting them into the building…you get the idea. The appointment and round trip drive time is approximately an hour and 45 minutes. And the rest of it takes approximately an hour and 45 minutes.

5. I’ve decided that after about five years, it’s time to start noticing that I have a husband and pay some attention to him when he’s around in the evening. We do things together that we both enjoy (translation: watch television) and surprisingly, this doesn’t involve me using the computer.

[Mooooommmmm! Are we there yet?!]

Not yet. 6. The number of television shows that I watch either real time or later on the computer has become out of control. Especially now that Lost is back. Sorry Deep End – I have a full plate right now. If you’re around in three years and I’m the only one who has no idea what people are talking about at cocktail parties, then I’ll have my regrets and add you to the Netflix queue. But for now, I’m already in the process of making cuts. Private Practice – you have a lot of potential and if I had the time, I’d definitely keep you on staff. But you know what they say, “last to come, first to go…” (Pssst! Flash Forward – make yourself scarce. I don’t want her to remember when you joined the team until after she’s gone.)

[Now that’s just pathetic… ]

So as you can see (if you’re still reading, that is) I have very good reasons for my dismal performance in posting here and HELLO! commenting. Seriously – I still love you – but if the name of your blog starts with any letter after L, I’m having a hard time reaching you in my reader. And that is going to be a big priority this week: catch up on my reader and visit some of my new commenters.

So to wrap up one of the most ennui inducing blogging about blogging posts, I’m now going to kick the eye rolls up a notch by adding some pictures of my kids!

Aren’t they the cutest ever?! I knew you’d enjoy that. Almost as much as my fiction writing. Which I skipped today…more apologies on that. Will the disappointments never end…?

*ALSO: I have some reviews and news up on As Good As Cake. Check it out!

I LOVE the kid pictures. But then again, I'm a mommy blogger, too. No real flashes of brilliance on my blog in words, but dang, the kids are adorable, so I've got that goin' for me…

Oh I hear you on number 3, Kate – my 2 year old is totally attached at the hip to me. Also? He's going through some terrible terrible two stage right now – changing his diaper is a 20 minute tear fest for both of us!
And number 4 – poor you! I hate winter because it takes so much longer to get the kids dressed and in and out of the car to go places… good luck.

ps…i had a mini mental in my mind anxiety attack today with carter. we started kindra in a ballat class today so there were millions of kids and moms within touching and talking distance. it was beyond possible to keep carter from not invading their space bubbles and finally this wonderful woman complimented his beautiful smile and eyes and it made me feel so at ease and realize once again (and when do you think i will remember this lesson???)that it is what it is and i love my son and who really gives a rats ace bout what anyone thinks! right!!! hehehe :)
    just thought you'd enjoy!

I've got one of those cord-tied kids too, so I *completely* understand what it does to the blogging. Mommy's not allowed to touch pen, paper, book, or computer without someone appearing instantly at my side and insisting she be allowed to play along…. Can't imagine how you juggle THREE of the challenging little blessings we call kids.

Take all the time you need, your readers will be here whenever you have time for us.

Haven't tried blogging w/ 2 three yr olds in my lap, but I bet it's a challenge! And those therapy appts, in the WINTER, ugh. Can't even begin to think of how long it takes to get those mittens on! I'm in a bloggy slump, too, but I don't have the same reasons. Loved the cute pics. Bet you are completely snowed in today…

(Can't see the photos, my internet is being exceedingly pissy today)

I hear you on the therapy, and I didn't have two younger twins to haul around! I did such a happy dance when Maya finished with ST a few months ago, leaving us with "just" soccer for him and gymastics for her that day (all between 4-6:30), but it seems we may now be adding a therapy group in on Sundays. We've got an interview with the facilitator tomorrow to see if it's a good fit. I hope so, I think this particular area would really benefit her as she ramps up for first grade next year and we've been trying to find one for a long time now.

And since the group overlaps with my son's Sunday soccer practice it would bring the scheduling craziness right back again. The only saving grace is that he's now old enough to stay home alone, and even to let himself in and out when someone else is driving. See, there is a light out there somewhere.

I'm right on board with this post right down to those adorably cute kids! I have a lot of these same things on my list, plus trying to do this single parent thing more nights than originally planned, actually reading some of the books I'm pushing on buyers when I do work, basketball games and/or practices to go to constantly, and not sleeping. Hooray (plus sigh..)!

Oh look at those pics, no eye rolling here.

Of course, I quite enjoy posts like this one cause I totally get it.

You're doing better than I am…at least you LOOK at your reader every now and again. Mine? All lonely and stuff.

Who hasn't done the post on blogging or lack thereof? You've got to do it. It's like a rite of passage except we do it over and over again.

This post made me laugh. I hear ya on the shows. I can only fit in so many. Private Practice has recently been cut for me too. And Lost is back! That thrills me to no end. I've stuck by this show and can't wait to see how it will all end.

You're busy! Don't apologize for it. You've got lots going on. I feel so busy these days that the thought of writing anything, and we're talking grocery lists, makes me want to cry a little. I'm happy you're here when you're here. I can't stay away.

Your kids are SO cute. Full of personality.

And what is with the clingy kids? My seven year old daughter recently can't stand to be away from me. It's maddening.

Very cute kids. I understand the tv thing. I actually rarely watch tv, but….I watch it on my computer. Hulu, Netflix and youtube and of course an occasionaly tv channel site. Too much.

They absolutely are the cutest! I miss them already. We must make our play dates weekly! :)

And of course I love the way you break down your reasons…all valid and all relatable by us moms.

At least you give reasons, I just ignore my blog and no one seems to care.

Love the pictures of the kids too cute.

Ditto! [Well, not the EXACT same reasons, but I feel you, sister! I'm in the neighborhood…]

Your children are adorable and, the bottom line is, life simply must come before the blog. It's funny, an almost inappropriate, how angsty that can make us feel.

    You're amazing!

Actually I don't know how any of you blog when you also have 3 adorable kids at home. I think it is admirable and should be on a time-only or need-to-escape basis. Anything more is just a bonus. XO
