Day two of my vacation and week of confessions. Here is number two: I have 20 Whole Foods grocery bags in the trunk of my car. I mean the kind that you buy so that you don’t ruin the environment with plastic bags or even the paper bags that are apparently just as bad. But I never remember to bring them into the store with me, so I continue to find myself buying new ones. I COULD just use the paper – but it’s now a matter of principle. I am a Whole Foods shopper that uses environmentally friendly bags. That was the point in buying the first one. It was an effort to make a difference – even in my own small way. But when I go to the regular grocery store I use their plastic. So my principles are exactly as ridiculous as they sound.
What about you? Have anything you’d like to confess?

I do the same thing. I always forget those silly bags.
But on the plus side, I am hoarding plastic bags so I can do my kitty litter. :)
OMG I do the same thing.
Except it’s more like 500 bags, and they’re in my kitchen closet. Talk about skeletons.
My confession is that I’ve never bought even one of those bags and always use the paper bags…having said that, I keep those bags and use them for all kinds of things in the house (which is drives my poor huband CRAZY!).
I finally had to leave on in the front seat of the car, or else I forget them in the closet.
Melissa, I have enough bags for an army of cats for 100 years. Its not good.
I do the exact same thing. Only one day I was so infuriated with myself that I left them in the car that I told the cashier to hold on and I ran out to my car to get them. I always remember them now.
I put them on my front seat, or on the floor of the front seat, that way I don’t forget them.
My confession, you can find me juggling up to 15 items and my two girls out of a store (even target) if I forget to bring my bag in.
i have a dwindling stack of those bags. i’ve started using them to wrap packages and stuff like that. but i do have reusable bags, i just forget to carry them with me.
my confession is that i have a huge cabinet full of the plastic bags that spill out when i open the cabinet. i’ve got at least 100 of them and i’ve been meaning to take them to recycle, but i always forget.
Melissa – I think that everyone keeps their plastic bags to use for something else. For most – it’s out of guilt – at least you have a real use for them.
Maggie – I think I forgot to mention the additional 20 that are stuffed into the space next to my refrigerator.
Anastasia – You never let anything go to waste. So you are allowed to go with the paper.
Renee – Front seat…good idea. I’ll have to try that.
Ainsely – So you shamed yourself. Good negative reinforcement. May have to try that one too (I know I’ve thought about running out to get one – but then didn’t when I thought about how far away I was parked…you know, my giant environment destroying truck – I’m just pure evil all around.)
Eat Play Love – Again – keeping them in sight. Obviously this is working for people – I’ll have to do that. Your confession is like an answer to that job interview question, “what do you consider an area in which you are weak?” The one where you come up with an answer that sounds like self criticism, but is ulimtately something that an employer would like. Like, “I tend to be a perfectionist” or “I get a little too personally involved in my projects.” But I appreciate the effort (and your dedication to the cause of not killing the earth of course).
Christine – I can just see your exploding cabinet. I’m sure my brother has made comments.
My confession is that I would rather feed my kids chocolate for dinner than go to the grocery store with all of the little devils, um I mean darlings, in tow. If I do have to take them for something, I can barely remember my head, let alone an enviro bag. So, I just feel guilty about my massive plastic collection!
haha. matthew has commented more on my stash of waiting to be recycled aluminum soda cans than he has on the plastic bag stash.
