Reality in Style – NOT Too Good to be True

As I slog through my reader trying to catch up (it’ll never happen…), I often come across older posts that I can’t believe I missed.

Earlier this month, of my favorite style bloggers, Sal from Already Pretty did a review on the clothing line, Reality in Style. And the pictures I saw literally made my eyes pop.

Here is the model in their “Bob dress”:

Now here is a picture of Sal wearing the same dress:

The model is actually another “real” woman: “Jackie, mother of two girls.”

It amazes me that this dress looks so fabulous on such different figures AND that real women were hired as models to boot (I think they should consider Sal for future shoots).

How rare to find designers who really do back up their claims to create styles that flatter real, un-airbrushed women…

AND if you are an Already Pretty reader (if you are not – rectify that now!) you can get a 45% discount (see the review post for details). I think I’ll be spending a little time perusing Reality in Style…how about you?

Photo Styling Crush

I LOVE how this designer’s look book images are all cookie cutter with the exception of the outfit. And these looks from the 2010 resort line are pretty lovely:

Wasn’t I just talking about a favorite fashion era to which this silhouette harkens? Well – I’m nothing if I’m not consistent…

Designer discovered via Lobster and Swan and images pulled from the Clements Ribeiro 2010 look book.

Brooch Baubles

Yesterday I posted some hats from Tissage that make me feel like I was born in the wrong era (admit it – you know this feeling – at some point during your childhood you wanted to be Anne of Green Gables or Laura Ingalls…)

Another speciality of Tissage is the necklace with a vintage brooch accent.

Here are some that I would love to own:

And here is a bonus brooch bracelet that I wouldn’t kick out of my jewelry box:

You can add these to the Valentines Day wish list…

"How Do We Feel About Opera Length Gloves?"

Okay – I’m not really interested in opera length gloves (today). That’s just a S&TC line I’ve always liked.

I’m currently obsessed with these cloche hats from Tissage:

That last one especially makes me want to crawl inside this old British television series and never come out.

Truly one of my favorite fashion eras.

More on Tissage tomorrow…

Valentines Day Gift Buying Guide

A gift buying guide for ME that is…

I think I’ll devote the next couple of days to gift ideas for everyone’s favorite Hallmark holiday.

Here are a few items that you might want to consider (okay – for YOU if you insist – but be aware that I have ME in mind):

The lover of pretty things in me wants to display these on a shelf…

…while the book nerd in me wants to run my fingers across the spines and wish I knew how to read French.

*I was originally going to feature a gorgeous cinnabar bracelet from FrenchBlue, but by the time I came back to grab the image, it was GONE. Quel dommage… Instead I selected these books which I just noticed are also now sold. Mon Dieu, one must act fast when shopping at FrenchBlue!

Moving on… I’m in desperate need of a gold cuff bracelet.

This one will do.

And would love another Liza Hirst to hang on my wall…

I’ll take a painting of flowers (and an abstract one at that!) over dozens of roses any day.

That’s enough for now. I’ll be back tomorrow with some more gift suggestions (for me).

My favorite thing in the new Anthropologie catalog is…

THIS HAIR!

Seriously. I’m dying. There are only two things that keep me from flying out the door to demand an on the spot haircut appointment at Aveda right now: fear of bangs and the sheer amount of product that I would require to keep my hair looking that sleek.

So instead I’ll just drool over the catalog and fantasize about a parallel universe in which I have no wrinkles and THAT HAIR.

I’m also swooning over the photography which is, as usual, extraordinary.

But my real favorite item is this blouse.

I have a Anthro gift card from Christmas burning a hole in my pocket right now… If I could only find the time to drop by a store to try it on… This of course, says a lot about the number of opportunities I will have to wear such a thing of beauty. But it would be nice to have it on reserve, to wear around the house during nap time, to stick my head in the closet so I could rub it against my cheek while nobody’s looking…

How to Get More Readers for Your Style Blog

Here’s an idea. Advertise in an online magazine.

I was just “flipping through” the latest issue of Lonny Magazine and saw an ad for a blog I know.

My Dog-Eared Pages is a very interesting read and I’ve found some new-to-me favorites there. One example is Jane Mount’s book collection paintings – my latest obsession.

Anyway – it occurred to me that if I didn’t already have that blog in my reader, I would have been intrigued by the ad and definitely would have checked it out. And I would assume that most other Lonny readers would do the same. So if you’re looking to grow your readership, advertising in a popular online style magazine could be the ticket.

How expensive is it? No idea. I won’t be advertising Wishing True anytime soon. It will never be more than a little blog about things I like/love/find intriguing and sometimes really can’t stand. But for those of you who are looking toward bigger and better things… Let me know how it works out for you!
