Tea with Dianne Gall

I recently stumbled across the website of Australian artist, Dianne Gall. All of her work is lovely, but I was particularly taken with these teacups:

You may be able to tell from my header that I have a bit of a thing for fine china. And if there is anything that I like better than a pretty teacup, it would have to be a painting of one.

Wondering what to wear to the tea party? Find inspiration in these paintings of party dresses:

Just beautiful.

When is the next issue of Lonny?

I’m really enjoying Lonny, everyone’s new favorite online magazine. But I think it needs to become monthly… Honestly – what are the editors doing in between months? Sitting around spending all that advertising money, I expect. I can’t imagine they’re working hard at all…

Seriously though – here are some of my favorite images from the Feb/Mar 2010 issue:

I also love these little idea boxes peppered throughout:

When does Apr/May come out? Fingers crossed for April…

The Stars Aligned…

Okay – so it’s not the BEST picture of me ever, and my eyes are a tad half mast… But the fact that all of my children are in the picture, smiling and looking at the camera… We’ll that’s just never happened before. I assume that like a solar eclipse, it will be a while before I see the likes of this again. But it gives me some hope for holiday cards in our future.

Here are some others that didn’t quite work out:

And the best part is that it was Easter, so everyone actually looked nice and I hadn’t just arrived home from the gym or not showered yet. Most photo ops seem to occur when I’m not interested in being captured on film.

Here’s a bonus one of me with Eleanor:

I mean – a mother-daughter picture in which we both look nice? Unheard of!

Anyway – I was inspired to make a little effort this weekend since I just finished a book by a very glamorous and lovely lady named Laura Bennett. If you watch Project Runway, you’ll recognize her as one of the Fashion Week finalists who dressed up for the workroom and wore stilettos throughout all of her (count ’em – SIX!) pregnancies. I’ll be posting a review, a short interview AND a giveaway this week – so watch for that. And try don a cute outfit and splash on a little lip gloss next time you’re running out to Target. You’d be surprised at how much better you’ll feel about yourself. Besides -you never know if your kids will agree to pose for a picture. It could happen…

Friday Fiction: Ivy’s World – Meet the Parents (Part One)

Last week, Carl made Ellen get real about her Color Magic business plans. And I finally got through those two areas (crystals and Color Magic) that were so connected to my real childhood that they felt impossible to write… Time to switch it up though – I think Ivy should tell us more about her parents.

Want to catch up? You can do so HERE.

Ivy had grown up knowing that her parents weren’t like those of her friends.

The other mothers were so casual. They wore jeans and tennis outfits, while it often seemed like her own mother woke up in a scarf and earrings. She wasn’t sure that Ellen even owned sneakers…if she did, they were probably in the storage room under the boxes of Christmas ornaments and half finished sewing projects.

It was true that Ellen had a far better closet for dress up clothes, but sometimes Ivy wondered if it wouldn’t be too much to ask for her mother to skip the three inch heels at the class trip to the zoo.

Sorry so short – but it’s Spring Break and beautiful outside. My computer time has been short. Hoping for another installment on Friday…

Inside Anthro and an Opportunity

I just love these table settings that Cassandra of coco+kelly put together for Anthropologie.

Have a favorite? Let her know.

In light of her new responsibilities with that dream job, she’s looking for some regular contributors for coco+kelly. My darling Christy sent me a link suggesting I apply, but honestly, I don’t think I have the time or the design talent that would be required. Do you? Check it out.

Tara Badcock Embroidery

I just love Tara Badcock’s work. She’s a textiles artist based in Tasmania, Australia, well known for her beautiful, detailed free-style and hand embroidery:
