Mrs. Lilien

Run don’t walk to this fabulous blog!

On Mrs. Lilien, each post is a “Mrs.” with source annotations (you’ll have to visit Mrs. Lilien for those details). For example:

Mrs. Meyer

Mrs. Mingle

Mrs. Why Not?

Mrs. Brunch

Mrs. Weekender

Mrs. Uptown

Or at least most of the posts are devoted to a “Mrs.” Some have a slightly different theme. Like this Mrs. Lilien paper doll:

I may stay up all night going through the archives…

Apparently her genius stems from a graphic design background. So it’s not ALL creative talent and extraordinary taste. This makes me feel minimally better about myself.

Give Me Liberty…or I’ll Have to Buy Cherokee

This was a BIG weekend for suburban moms. Liberty of London debuted their new Target line, and let me tell you – it was just like Filene’s bridal sale in Boston. Women were pulling merchandise off the racks without even looking at it – or more accurately, they were pulling it out of boxes before it was even placed on the shelves.

Okay, I’m exaggerating about Filene’s – but I was shocked by some of the shopping carts I saw. I even asked one woman if she planned to sell her haul on Ebay. But I can’t really blame the power shoppers because after all of those commercials and cruel store signs, taunting that we’d have to wait until March 14, the post-marketing frenzy was inevitable.

Since I woke up early on D-Day, I excitedly pulled up Target’s website and checked out the Liberty merchandise. Here are some things that caught my eye:

And of course, I can’t forget my daughter!

I also spent plenty of time looking at the home goods – so for more on that (as well an intro to a battle of style wills with my three year old daughter Eleanor) visit me at Style Key West!

Check back tomorrow for a look at what I bought…

Stolen Peacock Vintage

One of my favorite style bloggers, the hilarious Winona of Daddy Likey, just opened a new Etsy shop: Stolen Peacock Vintage.

As an avid thrift shopper, Winona is all too aware of the teeny tinyness of vintage garments the popular online shops. So Vintage Peacock will endeavor to carry a variety of sizes, including the M-XL ones when possible, as well as “some great accessories that will fit everyone.“

To celebrate their grand opening, they’ve arranged a little giveaway for Daddy Likey readers. The winner will receive a $20 gift certificate to spend on anything in the shop, along with a vintage Ann Taylor silk peacock patterned scarf.

The giveaway ends this Friday – so don’t miss it!

Reality in Style – NOT Too Good to be True

As I slog through my reader trying to catch up (it’ll never happen…), I often come across older posts that I can’t believe I missed.

Earlier this month, of my favorite style bloggers, Sal from Already Pretty did a review on the clothing line, Reality in Style. And the pictures I saw literally made my eyes pop.

Here is the model in their “Bob dress”:

Now here is a picture of Sal wearing the same dress:

The model is actually another “real” woman: “Jackie, mother of two girls.”

It amazes me that this dress looks so fabulous on such different figures AND that real women were hired as models to boot (I think they should consider Sal for future shoots).

How rare to find designers who really do back up their claims to create styles that flatter real, un-airbrushed women…

AND if you are an Already Pretty reader (if you are not – rectify that now!) you can get a 45% discount (see the review post for details). I think I’ll be spending a little time perusing Reality in Style…how about you?

New Online Magazine: Laura Day – Making Rooms for Living

I happened upon this “webazine” the other day and thought it was a really interesting take on online magazines. While it has some elements of traditional print magazines (features, advertisements, etc.) it is much easier to navigate as a website.

You may recognize Laura Day from TLC’s Trading Spaces. But her own NYC home, which is the focus of this first issue, is nothing like what we saw on that slap dash decorating show…

While I wouldn’t stay that her style mirrors my own, I do find her interiors very warm and innovative. And I like how much value she places on personal inspiration.

I LOVE the site index (looks like a color swatch):

My favorite feature was “The Closet” in which she takes one of her rooms and translates it into a travel wardrobe.

It will be interesting to see what comes next. And since it’s bi-monthly, we won’t have to wait long…

Photo Styling Crush

I LOVE how this designer’s look book images are all cookie cutter with the exception of the outfit. And these looks from the 2010 resort line are pretty lovely:

Wasn’t I just talking about a favorite fashion era to which this silhouette harkens? Well – I’m nothing if I’m not consistent…

Designer discovered via Lobster and Swan and images pulled from the Clements Ribeiro 2010 look book.

Fashion Art in Decorating

Several months ago I read a great guest post from Anh-Minh on sfgirlbybay. It included some lovely images of fashion sketches as art.

In her work for an article on secondhand shopping, she discovered some original 1970s fashion sketches. Once framed, these inexpensive pieces created a very unique and charming display:

She then found images of other fashion sketch displays that I love:

I’ve got soooo many “pretty things” that I’d like to display and I would add fashion sketches in an instant.

One of these days, I’ll have a little room for myself (an office perhaps) and one wall will be dedicated to the treasures I’ve collected over the years. The ones deemed too girly for shared space with my husband, that is (which is pretty much all space – though in his defense I’ve gotten away with a lot of girly stuff!)

So I’m now on the lookout for some fashion art to add to my stash…

"How Do We Feel About Opera Length Gloves?"

Okay – I’m not really interested in opera length gloves (today). That’s just a S&TC line I’ve always liked.

I’m currently obsessed with these cloche hats from Tissage:

That last one especially makes me want to crawl inside this old British television series and never come out.

Truly one of my favorite fashion eras.

More on Tissage tomorrow…

Valentines Day Gift Buying Guide (Part Two)

Continuing my buying guide (aka wish list)… Here are a few more lovelies that caught my eye.

This adorable cloche hat:

Ruche

Does it come with the curls?

Anything wrapped like this:

…and by “anything,” I mean this necklace:

Bonbon Oiseau

And finally – I wouldn’t mind an evening out worthy of this frock (plus the frock of course):

But only if you really love me…
