There is something about old birthday party pictures that really transport you back. My Dad has been scanning old slides and periodically sends me images – some of which I either don’t remember or have never seen before.
These seem to be from my fifth birthday party:

So “old school birthday party”… Just a bunch of kids sitting around a dining room table eating homemade cake. No theme – no germ encrusted ball pit – just fancy party dresses and dime store presents.
My favorite detail is the floral centerpiece. Only my mother… Though in her defense, it looks like a silk one that was always on the table.
Bonus pictures! Remember the hippity hop?

They’re still around (I believe people call them “hop balls” now?). But not with horse heads!
And check out my brother’s awesome pants. Men’s pants have a serious presence in these old photos… I’m kind of tempted to do a post celebrating my father’s 1970s collection. It was epic.

But I must say, Mom gave him a run for his money now and again…

OMG, the first picture looks exactly like Oliver!
Great pictures, so cute. :)
Such sweet photos, but those pants… What on earth was everyone thinking back in the seventies? Half of the photos of my childhood involve plaid knit pants. The horror!
I dunno; your dad has the pornstache which may trump the fur hat.
As soon as I saw the birthday pictures, I was hearkening back to 'cake and Kool-aid on a weekday' birthday parties.
I'm happy the pants haven't made a comeback, and wow! The jacket with matching hat? Sweet.
And I remember the bouncey ball and am jealous. We never had one.
Great pics! It's fun to look back on those old pictures and remember. It looks like you had/have a family who loves you very much.
p.s I am having a rare Giveway. Rare meaning I hardly ever do these, but I really wanted to help my friend Megan because she is an amazing Mom and deserves it. Please pop by!
I love your MOm's hat!!
What great photos! So 70's.
1) Oliver looks just like you! Uncanny.
2) I remember the old school bday party. I had several party dresses with matching shoes and purses. Simpler times.
3) My mom still has our hip hop horse head things. She probably still had my party dresses too, she's a hoarder
4) Your parents are so adorable, your mom looks so happy. I hope I don't look back in 20 years at photos of me as a young mother and think "she looks really tired."
That's a whole lotta plaid goin' on! Those yarn ribbons really take me back and I also remembering attending birthday parties all dressed up.
Love these photos. And I love that you call the ball pits germ encrusted! ha!
I love these pictures. I love how pictures can take you back to a moment in time in an intant. I think we have Sonny and Cher to thank for the styles of the 70's – the mustaches and plaid flared pants. "IGot You Babe" days were happy days.
These are fabulous.
Yup. Definitely. Your mom wins by a hat.
The snow photos with the hats and plaid coat and slacks are awesome!

oh Lord, I remember those days. Love the stache on dad there.
I have a few of those photos. Remember the days of parties at home that didn't cost 100's of dollars? I barely do.
Hoppity Horse! I had one with a Mickey Mouse head.
