Paper Lanterns

Maybe it’s tied in with my love of chinoiserie, but I’ve always had a bit of a thing for Chinese lanterns.

Earlier in the week I posted some images of fine china and my absolute favorite piece was this bowl with a lantern motif:

It reminded me these two Janet Hill paintings that I’ve kept in a folder forever – just so I can look at them and sigh:

If I could go back and do anything differently with my wedding – I would consider tying in a theme of Chinese lanterns:

Not sure how well it would have worked with the beautiful painted ceiling of the ballroom we used… Maybe it would have to be my parallel universe wedding under a tent…

Anyway – I saw this image today, and it pretty much summed up my love of lanterns in a nutshell:

I want to live in that picture. Dim Sum anyone?

Rifle Paper Co.

Have you ever wanted an illustrated portrait? On a business card or note paper? Yes, yes and yes please! How darling.

I found Rifle Paper Co. on A Cup of Jo tonight and I’m in love with those little people…

A custom invitation to an event (say – a wedding…) would be really special:

I’d say that this is a fantastic gift idea – but let’s be honest… I just want it for myself.

Mrs. Lilien

Run don’t walk to this fabulous blog!

On Mrs. Lilien, each post is a “Mrs.” with source annotations (you’ll have to visit Mrs. Lilien for those details). For example:

Mrs. Meyer

Mrs. Mingle

Mrs. Why Not?

Mrs. Brunch

Mrs. Weekender

Mrs. Uptown

Or at least most of the posts are devoted to a “Mrs.” Some have a slightly different theme. Like this Mrs. Lilien paper doll:

I may stay up all night going through the archives…

Apparently her genius stems from a graphic design background. So it’s not ALL creative talent and extraordinary taste. This makes me feel minimally better about myself.

Give Me Liberty…or I’ll Have to Buy Cherokee

This was a BIG weekend for suburban moms. Liberty of London debuted their new Target line, and let me tell you – it was just like Filene’s bridal sale in Boston. Women were pulling merchandise off the racks without even looking at it – or more accurately, they were pulling it out of boxes before it was even placed on the shelves.

Okay, I’m exaggerating about Filene’s – but I was shocked by some of the shopping carts I saw. I even asked one woman if she planned to sell her haul on Ebay. But I can’t really blame the power shoppers because after all of those commercials and cruel store signs, taunting that we’d have to wait until March 14, the post-marketing frenzy was inevitable.

Since I woke up early on D-Day, I excitedly pulled up Target’s website and checked out the Liberty merchandise. Here are some things that caught my eye:

And of course, I can’t forget my daughter!

I also spent plenty of time looking at the home goods – so for more on that (as well an intro to a battle of style wills with my three year old daughter Eleanor) visit me at Style Key West!

Check back tomorrow for a look at what I bought…

Working Class Studio Designs

Remember this glassware giveaway from CSN Stores December?

Well I just discovered the source of the design. A division of SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design), Working Class Studio “marries function with fine art” through original stationery and home decor lines.

This particular design comes from The Kay Collection.

And I fell in love with it for its subtle nod to Klimt (intended or not).

Other collections that caught my eye include, Un Petit Tour de Lacoste, stoneware plates and platters:

Re-Gift, fabric covered boxes and gift bags:

and Savannah Toile, a modern spin on a traditional textile:

I find this collaboration between students, teachers and alumni truly inspirational. What an amazing community. More art schools should institute programs like this one.

Kate Spade Bangles

I’m kind of in love with these bright Kate Spade bangles. They make me feel like summer is right around the corner.

But if I had to pick one (like if someone put a gun to my head and said “select a Kate Spade bangle or die!” – it could happen…), it would be this one.

Yeah – that will haunt my daydreams for a while…
