Austen Inspired

I bookmarked Portland designer, Elizabeth Dye’s site a while back when I discovered The English Department shop on Etsy. And I recognized her work immediately when Ann from The City Sage posted pictures of her “Pride and Prejudice wedding” photo shoot this week.

By far one of my absolute favorite fashion eras…and those design elements just may be what originally drew me to The English Department bolero jackets and gowns.

How Austen is this?

But it was her take on the bolero that really grabbed me. I’m a sucker for a well pleated ruffle…

It certainly can be a small lovely world here online…

Vintage Wedding Style

While it’s been some time since I’ve poured over wedding websites…and I never considered nontraditional gowns…this re-purposed vintage dress takes my breath away.

My wedding rehearsal dress was made with pale green sari silk. In my parallel universe life – I’m sure I put that spin on my wedding dress.

Paper Lanterns

Maybe it’s tied in with my love of chinoiserie, but I’ve always had a bit of a thing for Chinese lanterns.

Earlier in the week I posted some images of fine china and my absolute favorite piece was this bowl with a lantern motif:

It reminded me these two Janet Hill paintings that I’ve kept in a folder forever – just so I can look at them and sigh:

If I could go back and do anything differently with my wedding – I would consider tying in a theme of Chinese lanterns:

Not sure how well it would have worked with the beautiful painted ceiling of the ballroom we used… Maybe it would have to be my parallel universe wedding under a tent…

Anyway – I saw this image today, and it pretty much summed up my love of lanterns in a nutshell:

I want to live in that picture. Dim Sum anyone?

Feeling Weddingish: High Society Swoon

I find some of the most beautiful images on Wedding Cabaret. No idea where I found this site, but Mara really does discover some lovely weddings to feature.

I’m particularly taken with this bride. I think she looks like a Vanderbilt.

From the diamond pin accents on her stunning dress to that to die for headpiece, I can’t tear my eyes off of her. I think I want to marry her myself.

I also think she looks like a cross between Angelica Houston and Kristin Davis (à la S&TC days).

This bouquet is one of the most beautiful arrangements I’ve ever seen.

And the details are impeccable. I’d also kill for a a black and white cookie right now…
